I love this Jordan. I feel similarly about the fear-mongering nature of the all-or-nothing thinking when it comes to alcohol. My partner is a fermentation scientist and a big part of traveling for us is visiting local wineries and breweries as a way of learning about the land, culture, and community in a place. I feel like an awareness of a personal balance is so important and you speak to this really beautifully. I wish we lived closer to drink a glass of wine and write poems together! ๐
Regardless of where we live, we can absolutely make this happen! It sounds like you and your partner travel very similarly to how my husband and I do. Cheers to meeting up at a winery at some point in the future! Do you have a favorite winery or wine area you love to revisit?
I grew up in eastern Washington, which actually has some really amazing wine! Whenever Iโm there visiting my parents itโs fun to cruise around. I went to Calistoga a couple years ago, which I really loved also! I always love revisiting northern California and that area.
I love Walla Walla! Iโve visited there a couple times with my husbandโFoundry is one of my favorite wineries there for Pet-nat. Calistoga is one of my faves as well. We lived there in the bus for a short while. Itโs a lot more casual than other parts of the Napa Valley.
Thanks for this post, Jordan. I'm totally with you. What is wrong with a beautiful glass of wine that completes a delicious home made meal? There's currently a lot of this all-or-nothing thinking going on, not only for wine drinking and I don't think that it's healthy. I'm all for the Happy Middle. I love this term. โฅ๏ธ
Yayyyyyy I'm so glad you wrote this piece and planted your flag! "Wine connects me to nature, the terrior, the sense of place." Cheers to that, friend. ๐ค
