My, oh, May. What a month!
You may have read in one of my previous posts that I was laid off from my job of nearly eight years back in April. (I can’t stop writing about it — sorry.) May was my first full month being unemployed.
I’ve felt it all:
Gratitude that I no longer work somewhere that was making me sick
Shame that I’m no longer contributing to our household income in the same way
Freedom to try anything that comes along
Urgency to figure it all out, quickly and soon
And, it all feels the same.
“Wherever you go, there you are.” — Jon Kabat-Zinn
I’m still living my life and working toward goals. I’m still dreaming of new travel experiences and eating my breakfast oats. After a life-altering event like losing my job (although I didn’t lose it, it was taken), I felt I was suddenly supposed to be this new person. An unemployed person. But I’m still writing my poems and cuddling my dog and reading my books.
While I look for other income-producing activities (currently feeling aversion to the word “job”), I’m also still living a creative life of wonder, earnestness, and poetry.
Feels good. And I’m grateful to share it with you!
